Hi there, my name is Chloë Lai!

With Liann - Cheyenne Dehier - Tutor Educator Instructor Teacher

I’m a bilingual (French/English) Vancouver-based writer who believes in the power of joyful learning.

My passion for teaching began in childhood, when I developed and led a peer-to-peer reading program for students at my school. Now, more than 20 years later, I have taught writing, drama, literature and public speaking in Canada, China and beyond. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of British Columbia and an Associate of Arts in Creative Writing from Capilano University. I also have a background in film and theatre acting.

In 2013, I was invited to be a motivational speaker at the annual Toastmasters Youth Leadership Camp in Sarawak, Malaysia. In addition to speaking, I facilitated workshops and led educational games for the 300 students in attendance. I’ve also worked as a program assistant and monitor at the University of British Columbia’s international summer camps.

Most recently, I was the head editor at the Vancouver office of St. Joseph Media Group, the largest privately owned printing company in Canada. I managed the editorial team for several magazines, coaching writers to produce high-quality content.

In all environments, my students and staff achieved their best results when they enjoyed the learning process. My mission is to make the pursuit of knowledge irresistible and fun, creating lifelong learners who can succeed in an ever-changing world.

Fun Facts

Meet Chloë! She’s a Chinese / Kadazan / French writer who loves baking cheese, bursting into song, and reading sci-fi/fantasy novels by N.K. Jemisin and Terry Pratchett. (Sometimes all at once.) She’s fluent in two languages and enthusiastically inarticulate in three. Most of her money is spent on buying toys for her dog, who’s far too busy napping in sunbeams to play with any of them.

Favorite Movies

Her favourite Christmas movies are Elf and Die Hard. She’s pretty sure that most of the world’s problems could be solved by watching Ferdinand.
